Marco’s Pizza Franchise Named to Entrepreneur’s Top 500 Franchises

Posted Jan 22nd, 2014

Rapid growth, commitment to quality keep Marco’s Pizza among top-ranked franchises

marcospizzafreshMarco’s Pizza is once again included on Entrepreneur magazine’s prestigious annual Franchise 500, a respected guide to top franchise opportunities for savvy investors.

Marco’s emphasis on growth in 2013, along with its continued focus on quality and making the perfect pie, every time, helped propel it to No. 104 on the list. As the fastest growing pizza franchise in the country, Marco’s added 109 stores in 2013 — an incredible 33% increase in the overall size of the company!

“There are a lot of pizza franchises out there, but at Marco’s we really do things differently. We strive to make the perfect pie, every time, and our goal is to be the Five Guys of the pizza segment. It’s very fragmented and there are a lot of people out there competing to make a cheaper pizza. We want customers who come to us because our pizza is the best, most authentically Italian pie there is,” says CEO Jack Butorac.

Marco’s was founded in 1978 in Toledo, Ohio, when Pat Giammarco, a native Italian, decided to open a pizza place that honored the culinary traditions of his boyhood home. Now with 400-plus units in 33 states across the country, Marco’s has never strayed from Giammarco’s vision of authentic Italian pizza. At Marco’s, we make dough fresh in-store daily and use only premium meats, authentic cheeses and fresh-cut veggies for our pies.

Marco’s investors can expect to pay, on average, $350,000 for a Marco’s Pizza franchise, with a franchise fee of $25,000. They will need a net worth of $150,000 and $100,000 in liquid assets.

Although Marco’s is true to its Italian roots, the company embraces pizza as an American tradition. According to Gallup, 91% of Americans eat pizza once a month. Demand for delivery pizza remains high. Statistic here.

Marcos-Pizza-2014-franchise-500-104Entrepreneur sees food as a solid bet in the franchising industry, listing it among its top five segments to watch. The magazine said, in part:

Food franchises dominate the Franchise 500®, making up half of the top 10 and more than a quarter of all ranked companies. It’s no surprise, since the category contains some of the oldest and biggest franchises around. But there are plenty of newer, smaller franchises making their mark, too.

Mainstays like sandwiches, burgers and pizza are still going strong, and likely always will.
