Marco’s Sets Its Sights on Rapid Expansion

Growth is a priority for Marco’s Pizza. Our franchise system, with more than 350 stores, has doubled since 2008, and we’re working toward an ambitious goal: We want to be one of the Big Four pizza franchises within five years.

The Big Four are Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Little Caesars, the biggest U.S. pizza brands. They trip off the tongue easily because their stores are everywhere. But Marco’s Pizza customers know what we hope more consumers will learn — our pizza is better.

Our strategy? Maintain our quality as we expand aggressively. Our 55 Area Representatives are very accessible to franchisees in their territories and know the best places for growth in their communities.

We plan to add 104 more stores this year and aim for 500 stores in 2014. That aggressive expansion doesn’t mean we’ll ease up on our standards for franchise owners. Our CEO, Jack Butorac, knows how important it is to find the right franchisee and the right location for every store.

For now, we’re selling pizza in 29 states and three countries. With recent revamps to the non-pizza items on our menu; a renewed focus on advertising and marketing for our stores; and a dedication to franchise support and individual profitability, we see no reason why we won’t make this goal.

Marco’s Pizza was founded in 1978 by native Italian Pat Giammarco, who wanted to serve an authentically Italian artisan pizza. Dough is made fresh in-store daily; we use fresh cheeses, never frozen; our sauce is blended in stores.
