Posted Dec 22nd, 2014

Print and TV media outlets single out Marco’s for fast growth, high quality

Everyone loves good news, so it’s no surprise that television stations, newspapers and magazines across the country are talking about Marco’s Pizza ® franchise. We’ve caught the media’s attention with our fast-paced growth that is creating business opportunities and bringing new jobs to cities and towns.

Marco's Pizza ® franchise grew 33% in 2013 and is on pace for an even more successful 2014.

Others are talking about our commitment to serving authentic Italian pizza made with the highest-quality ingredients and about the phenomenal growth that has made us the fastest-growing pizza franchise in the country.

Here’s a sample of what they’re saying.

Consumer Reports taste test

Consumer Reports, the independent organization that ranks everything from cars and vacuum cleaners to food processors and other consumer products in its highly acclaimed magazine, conducted a survey to find the best and worst fast food restaurants. Marco’s Pizza ® appeared on the list for the first time and was ranked as the nation’s third-best pizza chain.

Readers rated restaurants on a scale of 1 to 10 from the least delicious to the tastiest. Marco’s, the only major national pizza franchise founded by a native Italian, was highly rated thanks to our commitment to using only the highest-quality ingredients. Marco’s Pizza ® dough is made fresh in every store, every day, and our pizzas are topped with premium meats, never-frozen cheeses, vegetables sliced fresh in-store, and a proprietary sauce recipe that blends imported spices and vine-ripened tomatoes developed specially for us.

Entrepreneur magazine

Entrepreneur magazine wanted to know why military veterans make such successful franchisees. The magazine posed that question to Joe Walker, who served two tours of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Army and now is a Marco’s Pizza ® multi-unit franchise owner in North and South Carolina.

Marco's Pizza ® franchise stores have experienced same-store sales increases almost every quarter since 2004.

Joe has 11 open locations, three in development and 17 more planned over the next four years. His store at 2305 S. College Road in Wilmington, North Carolina, is Marco’s 500th location. That store is an important milestone on our trajectory to reach the 1,000 store mark by the end of 2016.

Kate Taylor, who writes Entrepreneur’s “Franchise Players” column, asked Joe why he chose Marco’s Pizza ®. He pointed out the similarities between the military and franchising — the use of proven systems, the teamwork and the commitment to quality.

“Marco’s resonated with me at first experience because of the absolute adherence to all operational standards expected of all of its franchisees. This brand uniformity creates the platform to launch the aggressive growth that any investor seeks in an investment vessel. I have not been disappointed,” Joe told the magazine.

“This, coupled with the corporate approach of focusing on franchisee profitability as the ultimate sales mechanism for the brand have proven to be very powerful, to the point of propelling Marco’s Pizza ® to the fastest-growing pizza company in the country.”

Ohio’s largest newspaper notices Marco’s growth

The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper, wondered why Marco’s is growing so fast in that state. The newspaper turned to multi-unit franchise owner Matt Baker for an answer.

He told the newspaper that Marco’s Pizza ® sees northeast Ohio as ripe for expansion. We have 37 stores in the region and plan to open 14 more locations and hire about 400 people in the area by 2016. Across Ohio, Marco’s has 123 restaurants and has created more than 1,800 jobs.

Matt, who has 27 years of experience as a Marco’s Pizza ® employee and area representative, told the newspaper that Marco’s ingredients set it apart from other pizzerias.

“We use a fresh blend of three cheeses, never frozen,” he told the Plain Dealer. “Our dough is made onsite daily. The sauce is made daily, with a special secret spice recipe. We have people that just grow Marco’s tomatoes,” Matt said.

Making prime-time news and top industry rankings

At television station KVLY/KXJB in North Dakota, a news crew covered the grand opening of the Marco’s Pizza ® on South University Drive in Fargo.

The TV news that night had scenes of a giant, inflatable chef standing outside the restaurant and delicious pizzas being served inside. The story explained that Marco’s prides itself on authentic Italian artisan pizza, made with fresh, real ingredients.

“Marco’s takes pride in making pizza the authentic Italian way. They also have subs, wings and salads,” KVLY/KXJB told its audience that night.

Franchise Times magazine ranked Marco’s Pizza ® No. 8 on its Fast and Serious list, a ranking that evaluates franchise companies that are growing quickly and have staying power.

In addition to the Franchise Times ranking, Marco’s has been listed at No. 104 on Entrepreneur‘s Franchise 500 and included in Franchise Business Review’s Top 200.
